Business need
Our client, Shin Software, an Italian consulting and software development company established in 2000, develops web based applications with open source technologies (PHP, MySQL, FIREBIRD, Javascript, etc.), and desktop applications using Microsoft .Net framework.
They provide their clients with different types of solutions: Large corporate intranets, CRM and sales force management systems, ERP integration, 3D realtime simulations and e-learning systems. Due to success and the growth of their business they needed to extend their business, and they needed help in software development.
They decided to try the outsourcing option, since it is a cost effective and efficient way to manage company's finances. First they tried to work with an Indian partner, but encountered a number of problems, such as insufficient communication, low quality, broken deadlines, frequent changes of project resources, etc. All these factors neutralized the advantage the company received from outsourcing. Taking all these factors into account, they decisided to try cooperation with another partner.
Challenge
The main challenge was to persuade the customer, now feeling negative about software development outsourcing, that if properly organized, this cooperation can be successful, very effective, and save greatly on costs without losing time and/or quality.
Another challenge was to build a creative team which could fulfill the specific and very detailed instructions as well as think independently. The team would need to search for the best ways to realize this or that task, and have their own opinion on various parts of software development. So the necessary team would be active and highly involved participants--a true part of the company and the team.

Such a combination allowed us to create a brand new product relatively quickly for our client's business. And we accomplished another significant thing--we created a very flexible, reliable and highly scalable proprietary framework, designed to enable customizations for the businesses our client provided services to. The framework is called the Shin Framework, named for our client company.
